Sample Project Summaries

Remote Activity Monitor System - Major system design incorporates a modem, remote access firmware, remote configuration software, switching power supply, 24 digital inputs, 8 analog inputs, 8 relay outputs, clock/calendar, and paging. Intended to allow remote monitoring and reporting of backup power generators used in high-reliability settings, this unit is being deployed in Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores, with over 500 locations nationwide. Other installations include power peak-shaving, cellular phone tower power monitoring and control, and hospital power generator monitoring.

Laboratory Freezer Controller Design - Replaced a non-processor-based controller for General Signal Laboratory Equipment Corp. Lowered total system costs, increased performance. 23-bit A2D precision, no adjustments required. Incorporates switching power supply, LED interface, and telemetry. Over 25,000 units shipped.

Commercial Automatic Door Operator System – Designed for automatic door manufacturer in the Charlotte, NC area. Control circuitry for automatic doors such as those found on supermarkets. Fully automated features include obstruction shutdown on open or close, position-based feedback, push to open feature, ratchet feature, ‘hold on command’, feature, programmable open speed, close speed, open delay, soft start, variable obstruction sensitivity, variable linkage geometry, learn mode with position stored in EPROM.

RF Diathermy Console and System - Redesigned for 75% cost reduction, this is a 150 Watt 27 MHz biomedical device intended to heat human tissue with focused radio waves for treatment of a variety of conditions. Redesign involved creating a new controller, power amplifier, power supply and antenna.

Radio Pet Containment System - Reverse engineering of timer-based design with processor to achieve patentable signal discrimination, proximity detect, correction control features, safety timeouts, transmit/receive software in one processor. Electronic design provided basis for product line of client, now shipping approximately 60,000 units per month.

Antenna Infrared Remote Control System - Emergency redesign of a non-functioning Zilog-based unit, this design was performed for large Dallas, Texas-based consumer electronics company. Sales began in April 1997 with annual volumes of 10 to 20,000.

Data Acquisition and Analysis Systems - Brain wave monitor circuitry used for analysis and evoked potential studies. Application is for brain-wave amplification for incorporation in biofeedback device with associated software for use in reducing Attention Deficit Disorder.

Moving Message System with infrared remote control keyboard - Unit is designed to operate in automotive or office environments, and contains power conversion circuitry, NVRAM for message storage, LED drivers, enunciators, ROM-based messages, real-time programming, etc.

Sparrow Missile - Vertical Launch Version - Jet Vane Control Test System design, fab and programming. (PC-AT/DOS Turbo Pascal with custom fixturing, packaging, servo amplifiers, analysis software)
