Reboot!
CRT was incorporated in 1995, and for seven years, provided electronic services to companies in the Asheville, NC area and surrounds. Employment ranged from one to ten in a variety of disciplines, depending on the needs of the moment. In 2002, CRT contracted to a single employee (me!) and relocated to chilly Vermont, performing limited maintenance engineering and support for existing products for the next several years.
In 2008, I am hitting the 'reset' button, and cranking up again to find new clients in the Northeast, to further relationships with existing customers, and to take advantage of an economic environment that many people might mistake for unpromising, considering that gas is $4 a gallon and there's a war on.
In reality, the sudden appearance of $4/gallon gasoline actually appears to be a good thing. Profound and lasting structural changes in the economy are likely to occur as a result, and the demand for products with an energy focus promises to be large. Unlike CRT's early period, this one has a much improved internet infrastructure, with wireless and persistent connections to the internet abundant and inexpensive. Also, in the mid-1990's, it was almost impossible to sell RF expertise, and now, wireless is everywhere.
America has always excelled at innovation. We are at our best when we most need to be. For innovators, turmoil isn't necessarily a bad thing. Already, I've tied into two projects that have oil-related drivers... a product development for a 'small-is-beautiful-buy-local' dairy project and a major update to a prior modem-based energy saving controller used in 'peak shaving' applications. Having adding a good deal of expertise in the last few years in the field of robotics and remote vehicle control, I have also uncovered many new application areas to address.
